EXPERIMENTAL TYPOGRAPHY | PRAGUE
Prague had a very unique vibe. It was beautiful yet a little rough around the edges. People here wear their emotions on their sleeves and don't hold anything back. I saw beautiful Mucha and Dali exhibitions, along with some amazing street art and sculpture.
While I was taking summer classes, one of our Czech teachers took us to the school where she worked during the year. The students there were having a summer show and we were given the chance to talk around and see their work. I was most drawn to the graphic design studios. As I was taking watercolor, I was craving some type in my life.
What struck me most about these posters was their boldness. I don't know what the assignment was, but these typefaces were all over the place. These students obviously weren't afraid to take risks, and they really paid off. It really was a mixture of art and design.
I really enjoyed seeing how design students, normally across the world from me, approached graphic design. They had a loud point of view and took their designs to the next level. It was inspiring to see, and encouraged me to take more risks during my time at school. I shouldn't be so afraid to make mistakes or express my voice through my work.

The John Lennon Peace Wall

The John Lennon Wall in Prague has existed since the 1980's. It was then that Prague was under Communist rule, and its citizens did not have many outlets to express themselves. According to this great write up, "Today, it has become a monument to free speech and the non-violent rebellion of Czech youth against the regime. "
The wall was definitely inspiring to see as a design student. It was a reminder that our voices and opinions matter, and that we collectively have great power. It's the artists' duty to express what the normal public cannot. We have to use our talents to make the world a better place.

OK this type isn't experimental, but is is pretty. Just wanted to give a shoutout to my favorite restaurant in the city. I don't remember what I ate, but I know it was amazing. There's also just something about the high ceilings, big open windows, and Czech people sitting for hours smoking and eating.
