Impact Report

"Alex single handedly made this project happen beyond our wildest dreams. She good naturedly accommodated the many requests we made, both following our lead and vision while making suggestions and improvements we had not imagined. Alex has a positive can-do attitude and openness to ideas. The project felt collaborative, respectful, and joyful with her at the other side of our 'digital table.'"

Kind words from the Director of Development (my main contact):

Schoodic Institute 2019 Impact Report

I matched with Schoodic Institute through the website CatchaFire, a site that matches volunteers with organizations that need their professional help. I designed the 2019 Impact Report as a printed publication as well as an online ADA compliant document.

To show all the events that had happened throughout the year, we dedicated four spreads to a continuous timeline.

The image grid created visual interest and kept each page looking unique.

Second Century Stewardship Anniversary Campaign

The Anniversary Campaign is an interactive PDF document meant for donors and potential donors. I pulled design inspiration from the Second Century Stewardship branding, especially the use of contour lines.

Kind words from the Director of Development:

"This is our second successful project with Alex. What originally began as a one page idea grew into a six page digital graphic. There were months when it had to held on the back burner; when we circled back to continue the work she never missed a beat. Alex again accommodated our requests while unfailingly improving upon them every step of the way. The big difference in time zones, which may be concerning, is actually an advantage. Changes in materials sent late in the evening from Maine often yielded freshly updated iterations in the inbox when I awoke. This past year has been a great period of adaptation in how work can proceed, and my Catchafire experiences with Alex have been among the highlights of that adaptation. Alex is a generous and highly skilled designer with a good eye; she is also willing to explore new ideas and deepen her skill set when asked for something unusual. The project was again collaborative, collegial, and joyful with her as our partner. Alex is everything one hopes for in a star designer, and then some."

Design Process

I worked closely with the Schoodic Institute team in creating these pieces to support their non-profit. In my design process, I'm very comfortable just 'running' with an idea. I was able to create the layout very early on, and the Schoodic team could work more efficiently to fill in the blanks. I think it's helpful to share the iterative design process with the client, as it helps them to visualize the pages and to make informed decisions when it comes to copy length and image choice. While sometimes it's not ideal working so back-and-forth to get a design done, I think this approach was collaborative and productive.

From Draft 1 of the Anniversary Campaign:

We wanted to maintain a consistent grid for the Interactive PDF pages, so the design from start to finish really didn't change that much!

Before the interactive PDF was decided on, I also spent some time iterating print pieces: one pagers, trifold and four fold brochures.
